About Us

Preprint Server Project

The Journal of Emerging Investigators will utilize our 11 years of experience in the online publishing space to leverage the development and implementation of the first-ever preprint server designed for middle and high school students. Through programming professionals and our staff, we will develop a preprint server that allows students to submit their own scientific papers for direct publication, comments, questions and inquiries from other students and the JEI network of reviewers.

Our Plan

The preprint server will be created for, and is expected to receive, tens of thousands of submissions from students, and will be of particular service to those who live in disadvantaged rural and underserved communities who have limited access to other means of sharing their research. Peer-review and publication processes are essential to research and other scholarly work, yet the skills associated with these processes are rarely explicitly or consistently taught to developing scholars (Mattison, 2021). The outputs from the project will be:

  • A designed, tested and published preprint server. The server will continue indefinitely and JEI will seek to expand the submissions year-over-year.
  • 500 student submissions within the first year
  • Freely-available educational tools for authors, educators and students to read the work of their peers.
